Stating that current regulations and draft guidance documents address readability concerns for direct-to-consumer ads, in June the Food and Drug Administration denied a 2009 citizen petition from Pharmacists Planning Service Inc. requesting that the agency "standardize and increase" print size to help patients and consumers read the fine print in DTC ads. "The FDA rightfully rejected this petition because it focuses on the wrong issues and proposes changes that do not go to the root of the problem," according to Coalition for Healthcare Communication Executive Director John Kamp.
