Companies often strive to address the weaknesses of their employees, but they might be better served by attempting to enhance their strengths, writes Erika Hayes James, senior associate dean for executive education at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business. The approach is especially relevant for women, whose leadership styles and strengths often differ from the methods that men display. Women have been socialized to develop "soft skills" that are critical for success in the modern business climate, she writes.
