Hydraulic fracturing pioneer and Texas oilman George P. Mitchell passed away last week, according to his family. Mitchell took part in the drilling of about 10,000 wells, and his company Mitchell Energy & Development dedicated many years to the development of fracking. "Because of Mitchell's persistence ... we are today witnessing an unprecedented boom in domestic energy production and the associated economic benefits in Texas and nationwide," said Barry Smitherman, chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission.
