Aside from protecting against cervical cancer, the human papillomavirus vaccine could be 93% effective in preventing throat cancer, according to a study in the journal PLOS One. Researchers gave more than 7,400 women aged 18 to 25 either the HPV vaccine or a hepatitis A shot, and just one patient from the HPV vaccine group developed oral HPV infection after four years compared with 15 in the other group.
