To meet the needs of each patient and keep the working environment hazard-free, an acceptable number of nurses and other medical staff should be available across the continuum of care at all times, according to a policy statement released by the International Centre for Human Resources in Nursing. "It is well known that nurse staffing affects the patient's length of stay in hospital, morbidity and mortality and their reintegration into the community," International Council of Nurses President Judith Shamian said.
