Kansas Health Information Exchange has transferred its responsibilities for regulating the digital exchange of patient information to the state, after Gov. Sam Brownback signed the transition of authority into law on July 1. State officials expect 1 million patients will have their records data on the exchange by year-end, although patients have the option of having their information excluded from the network, and the Department of Health and Environment has started processing those requests. The state also estimates one-third of state hospitals will be connected to the network by the end of 2013.
