The students participating in the Girls Summer STEM Experience at the Regional Education Alternative Learning School in Falmouth, Maine, may have been having fun learning about car design and other projects, but program organizers see a broader goal for this and similar programs. Their hope is that by making the study of science, technology, engineering and math more interesting and compelling to girls, the gender gap in STEM careers will begin to shrink.
