As part of the Justice Department's Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities Working Group, authorities reportedly are considering the viability of using evidence uncovered in civil investigations to build criminal charges related to alleged intent to commit fraud relating to the selling of securitized loans backed by subprime mortgages. "The RMBS Working Group members are aggressively investigating both civil and criminal matters across the country. RMBS Working Group members expect to announce more law enforcement actions in the future," Justice Department spokeswoman Adora Jenkins said.
