A review published in the journal Academic Radiology supports subjective visual interpretation for the assessment of adrenal nodules using 18F-FDG-PET/CT. Researchers from Duke University Medical Center reviewed 132 adrenal nodules in 105 patients with a history of lung cancer who underwent FDG-PET/CT imaging. "Our findings suggest that the qualitative method can be used as the primary method of adrenal nodule evaluation without compromising diagnostic accuracy, while quantitative methods of evaluation may provide confirmation and improved sensitivity in problematic cases," the authors wrote.
