A study in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine showed routine echocardiograms do not reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and death, according to researchers who tracked more than 6,700 people for 15 years. Cardiologist Dr. Tara Narula said the test is not appropriate for everyone and that some patients who get an "all clear" diagnosis could "take that as license to ignore guidelines for heart-healthy living."
