Samsung Electronics and the Android operating system have seized control of the European smartphone marketplace, according to a report from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, a consumer research firm, which says Android holds a 70.4% share of the market compared to 17.8% for Apple's iOS platform and 6.8% for the Windows phone. Samsung accounts for nearly half of Europe's smartphone sales, Kantar says.
"Across Europe, Android growth remains strong. However, in the U.S., Apple's expanded distribution agreement with T-Mobile is helping the iPhone keep Android growth at bay," says Kantar's Paul Moore.
