With capital spending driven by silicon foundries and manufacturers of NAND flash memory devices, global sales of semiconductor production equipment are forecast to increase 21.2% to $43.98 billion in 2014, according to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International. After a slowdown in equipment orders by Samsung Electronics and other chipmakers in the second half of 2012, SEMI estimates that this year's equipment market will total $36.3 billion, a 1.7% decline compared with last year.
