A research program organized by Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Center for Industrial Mathematics and Statistics invites college mathematicians to work with local businesses and apply their learning to real-life situations. "This (experience) was very different because we had to work on industrial problems," said Sonia Mahop, from Howard University. "It's a really big deal because they expect us to have something they're hopefully going to use (to manage) their portfolios."
