California's historic missions are serving as classrooms for 80 teachers from across the country who want to learn more about the region's history. The teachers attended a recent workshop, funded by a National Endowment for the Humanities grant, that included tours of four missions and sessions with historians and Native American artists. "Going to the missions gives me a better insight and allows me to get more details, to make it more alive for my students," said Tim Deegan, a social studies teacher in New York City.
