The water system of a Castle Point, N.Y., Veterans
Administration hospital is undergoing treatment after the death of an 80-year-old patient from Legionnaires' disease. Hyperchlorination treatments began in June after tests detected the presence of Legionella bacteria. "Our remediation efforts to date have been effective, and we are confident this issue will be resolved shortly," said John Mazzulla, a VA spokesman. "We will continue to frequently test, to proactively monitor and manage the situation under the guidance of the VA, Centers for Disease Control and the Dutchess County Department of Health."
