A pair of institutions disclosed, in separate instances, plans to deploy or test white-space technology in order to provide so-called "Super Wi-Fi" services. West Virginia University claims to be the first U.S. university to build a white-space network, in which vacant broadcast TV frequencies transmit data. Also, the Gigabit Libraries Network wants at least half a dozen rural libraries to take part in a free white-space trial until the end of the year.
