AT&T will ditch the sales counters and cash registers at up to 20 retail stores by the end of the year in an effort to encourage consumers to try new devices or applications and enjoy the retail experience. Mounted flat-screen TVs will replace in-store signage and installed booths will give customers a "more inviting and warmer" feeling when discussing pricing plans, said AT&T Chief Marketing Officer David Christopher.
