Data on 43,287 children and young adults ages 6 to 24 revealed those who were on antipsychotic medications had a threefold increased risk of type 2 diabetes compared with nonusers. Researchers said the odds of developing diabetes occur during the first year of administration and may persist up to one year after the treatment was discontinued. The findings appear in JAMA Psychiatry.
