The percentage of newborn boys who were circumcised in hospitals dropped from 64.5% in 1979 to 58.3% in 2010, the National Center for Health Statistics reported. Western states recorded the greatest decline in hospital-based circumcisions. The American Academy of Pediatrics has found that the health advantages of infant circumcision outweigh the risks.
