Cisco Systems says its cost-cutting measures, which include 4,000 layoffs, won't affect Sourcefire, a security vendor it is acquiring for $2.7 billion. Sourcefire makes open-source intrusion-detection and -prevention technology and has about 650 workers. "[T]he Sourcefire deal itself is part of Cisco's renewed focus on a short list of key priorities, which include security as well as data center and cloud infrastructure, software, services and video," Stephen Lawson writes.
