Students in the Douglas County School District in Colorado are learning math and critical-thinking skills through after-school chess clubs and chess camps. Lior Lapid, founder of PALS Chess Academy, has been leading the effort in the district and plans to continue expanding the programs in schools. "The kids really loved it. And I think (chess) has a lot of math and problem solving that gets kids to do critical thinking," elementary-school principal Gigi Whalen said.
