A panel of bioethicists will develop ethics guidelines for the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies project to map the human brain's activities. "The long-term consequences of more brain knowledge -- whether it's good for an ethnic group or threatens your personal identity -- there's sort of no one in charge of that," said medical ethicist Arthur Caplan. Concerns include developing the ability to manipulate memories, predict criminal behavior and predict untreatable neurodegenerative diseases.
