Researchers analyzed data on more than 170,000 women over a 26-year period and found that those who consumed the highest amount of dietary fiber were 40% less likely to develop Crohn's disease than those who consumed the least. Fiber's protective benefit was greater when the fiber comes from fruit, researchers said. The study, published in the journal Gastroenterology, failed to find a link between fiber intake and ulcerative colitis.
