Natural gas production from the Marcellus Shale formation is growing faster than expected, and it is affecting U.S. energy trends, Bentek Energy analysts said. Pennsylvania's portion of the play alone produced approximately 1.5 trillion cubic feet of gas in the first half of the year, and the figure is expected to reach 3.2 trillion cubic feet of gas by year's end. Marcellus gas is "actually starting to displace" Gulf of Mexico production, said Bentek analyst Diana Oswald.
