Hotels are expecting strong bookings over the Labor Day weekend amid optimistic travel forecasts by companies including AAA and TripAdvisor. Data from STR indicate a new peak in July hotel demand since the company started tracking hotel performance. "It's a healthy indicator of a good rebound. We're suggesting that with the U.S. economy not getting worse -- not getting a whole lot better but not getting worse -- people are saying, 'We've waited long enough, so let's go,'" said Jan Freitag, a senior vice president at STR.
