In this blog post, middle-grades language arts teacher Ariel Sacks writes about a tool she developed to help her weigh the merits of fiction and nonfiction pieces of literature. She explains how to use the tool to rate works along a continuum in five domains such as thematic connections and reading level. "The tool is meant to help uncover the possible strengths and challenges for use of a particular text -- not to quickly determine a yes or no answer," she notes.
