The Wake County, N.C., School Board recently voted 5-3 to change the name of a new high school to include the word "friendship," in honor of a historically African-American local community. Though some opponents called the word too "juvenile" for a high school and said it would subject students to bullying from students of other schools, the name of West Apex High School will be changed to Apex Friendship High School out of respect for the past, members said. "I think it's extremely important that we honor the older historic areas of our community," said board member Susan Evans, who voted for the change.
