Oracle's new SPARC M6 processor features 12 cores and the ability for each core to run eight threads simultaneously, the company revealed at the Hot Chips conference. The chip is expected to run the company's software applications faster on its line of high-end servers. Also at Hot Chips, Fujitsu detailed its SPARC X+ processor, a 16-core chip for mainframe computers, in which each core can run two simultaneous threads.
