Parkinson's disease patients who have subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation may partly credit their reduced pain to changes in pain perception and increased mechanical pain thresholds, French researchers reported in Neurology. "As STN-DBS can improve pain perception and mechanical pain threshold and tolerance in PD, findings suggest a major contribution of a central origin of pain in PD in this PD study sample," said Dr. Janne Gierthmuehlen, a pain researcher at University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein in Germany.
