Tax preparers had to deal with a perfect storm of a shortened filing season because of new tax laws and widespread reports of software performance issues, according to the 2013 AICPA tax software survey. The study found significant dissatisfaction with the performance of tax software for small to midsize CPA practices as well as other major tax preparation software. Almost a quarter of respondents called it the "worst tax season in history."
