Researchers recently conducted a study involving individuals with bipolar disorder, many of them patients at the Indianapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center, in which their blood was screened and they were interviewed about suicidal thoughts. Researchers found five biomarkers with the potential to be suicide indicators, with one of them -- a protein involved in stress and cellular damage -- a leading candidate.
