Sprint has given U.S. Cellular customers in St. Louis an Oct. 31 deadline to switch carriers, while Chicago-area subscribers will have until Jan. 31 to do so as Sprint plans to shut down the cell towers as a result of its May acquisition of some of the regional carrier's spectrum. Sprint, which is replacing U.S. Cellular's CDMA equipment with its Long-Term Evolution-based network, said 173,000 of the 420,000 affected subscribers were still with U.S. Cellular as of the end of last month.
