Outcomes were better in venous leg ulcers treated with standard therapy plus either high-frequency ultrasound or noncontact low-frequency ultrasound than in ulcers treated with standard therapy alone in a randomized study of 90 outpatients. Wounds in the ultrasound groups healed faster, and pain, ulcer size and edema were lower than in the control groups. Researchers did not find statistically significant differences between the two ultrasound groups.
