PET/CT imaging with the agent F-18 ICMT-11 shows promise in detecting caspase-3, an enzyme that plays an important role in cellular death, according to a study in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine. Researchers noted that gallbladder localization demonstrated by the agent is higher compared with that of other F-18 labeled tracers. "Effective anticancer therapy often requires induction of tumor cell death through apoptosis," researchers wrote. "Monitoring of this process could provide important predictive outcome information in the context of routine patient management and early clinical trials."
