A small, unnamed comet crashed into the sun Monday and was caught by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory operated by NASA and the European Space Agency. The comet is believed to have belonged to the Kreutz sungrazer group of comets. "With a diameter of perhaps a few tens of meters, this comet was clearly far too small to survive the intense bombardment of solar radiation," said Karl Battams of the Naval Research Laboratory.
