Starting with the Audi A3, vehicles armed with Long-Term Evolution technology soon will appear in dealers' showrooms but with one crucial difference from other wireless devices: Users will be tied to the carrier associated with that car, unlike in Europe where owners will have a chance to slip any carrier's SIM cards into their dashboards under Gemalto's machine-to-machine model. Gemalto said the U.S. auto industry is hindered by its multiple mobile standards and disparate Long-Term Evolution spectrum locations.
