The proportion of low-income people aged 50 and older who were given recommended preventive care in the U.S. ranged between 26% or less in California, Idaho and Oklahoma to 42% in Massachusetts, according to a Commonwealth Fund report. Hospitalizations due to asthma among children from poor communities in New York were eight times greater than in Oregon. Between 2010 and 2011, more low-income people were underinsured or uninsured compared with their wealthier counterparts.
