Following an increase of endocarditis-related hospitalizations between 1999 and 2005, fewer patients were admitted for the condition from 2006 to 2010, researchers from Yale School of Medicine found. This decline happened even though the American Heart Association recommended limits on the prophylactic use of antibiotics for the condition. The findings appear in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
