BlackBerry will reportedly slash its 12,700 workforce by up to 40% this year, according to a published report -- although one analyst said those cuts will only apply to Canada, with the company actually moving some of those jobs to the U.S. along with some of its operations. "The executive said they are indeed laying off folks in Canada. The proposed 40% layoff may be true in Canada ... but I don't think it accurately reflects what's happening overall," said Jack Gold of J. Gold Associates. Also at BlackBerry, the company said it will allow users of Android 4.0 or higher and iOS 6 and 7 to download BlackBerry Messenger applications this weekend. That will allow them to chat with BlackBerry owners.
