The current emphasis on pay-for-performance incentives as a driving force for better care can be effective as long as it is coupled with the meticulous, respectful and artful care that has guided physicians for generations, writes Dhruv Khullar, a student at the Yale School of Medicine and Harvard Kennedy School.
