Patients without certain comorbidities can be treated for post-operative pain in a way that reduces opioid use and the risk for dependence, pain experts said at a conference. Acetaminophen has been shown to work well with ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as with opioids to enhance pain relief using lower doses of opiods. Certain opioids should be avoided entirely, one expert said.
