Florida Gov. Rick Scott issued an executive order that the state cease acting as the "fiscal agent" for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers -- charged with designing tests to assess students' achievement under the Common Core State Standards. Scott has faced political pressure about the common core in Florida, which previously was a leader in the PARCC group. "Unfortunately, PARCC has become a primary entry point for the involvement of the federal government into many of these state and local decisions," Scott wrote in a letter to U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan after issuing the order.
