The opening of a Motorola smartphone factory in Fort Worth, Texas, highlights the area as a center for manufacturing growth in recent years, and one tangible example of the return, or reshoring, of production to the United States. Fort Worth-Arlington has added 5,500 manufacturing jobs in the last year, a gain of 6%, largely because of increased production from companies such as GE and Caterpillar. "That's a very good sign," said Daniel J. Meckstroth, MAPI's chief economist.
