HHS made six potentially redundant investments amounting to $260.4 million from 2008 to 2013, a Government Accountability Office report says. The GAO questioned the agency for investing $256.4 million on four enterprise information security projects since it has also purchased separate systems to address similar problems. The report also said the use of Medicare's National Coverage Determination and Local Coverage Determination databases might be duplicative as the systems have similar functions but are separately maintained.
