Countries worldwide are taking innovative approaches to solving education challenges that also have long-plagued U.S. schools in areas such as educational equity, testing, vocational education, summer learning loss and well-rounded education. In Australia, some schools administer essay-based assessments with few multiple-choice questions, while educators in Ontario, Canada, teach -- and test -- students in literacy and numeracy within the context of other subjects.
