More than 40 schools in Allegheny County, Pa., are using positive behavior interventions and supports to reduce suspensions and improve academic outcomes. The program, which sets the same expectations across the school and teaches students about respect and behavior, led to a significant drop in suspensions -- from 425 in 2011-12 to 30 in 2012-13 -- in one elementary school in the county.
