Primates may not have much use for travel agents, but male orangutans considering going on a road trip often plan in advance by notifying their female companions of their imminent departure, according to new research. Biologists at the Anthropological Institute and Museum at the University of Zurich found that in the hours before traveling, male orangutans often emit a loud cry in the direction they are planning to go. "Basically, they're telling their female audience where they're going," said researcher Carel van Schaik.
