National Health IT Week launched Monday with a meeting at which outgoing National HIT Coordinator Dr. Farzad Mostashari challenged federal officials and industry stakeholders to consider whether it's time to move into an era of more patient-focused health care. Dave deBronkart of the Society for Participatory Medicine cited the creation of the Blue Button and the use of OpenNotes to share health care provider notes with patients as ways that patients are being brought into their care as active participants. U.S. Chief Technology Officer Todd Park said, "Like many others, I'm a passionate advocate for the power of data to improve health care, and Blue Button simply enables consumers to participate directly in this movement."
