Mozilla will require Firefox users to authorize the use of all third-party plug-ins except Flash in its upcoming version of the Web browser. Mozilla is joining Google and Microsoft in trying to phase out plug-ins in favor of Web standards built into browsers. "Plug-ins used to be an important tool for prototyping and implementing new features, such as video and animation. As browsers have advanced, this kind of feature development can occur directly within the browser," writes Mozilla's Benjamin Smedberg.
