Nicaragua-based grower the Coen Group is planting enough banana trees to boost the country's crop 300%, switching over from less-profitable sugar cane to a fruit that's in high U.S. demand. "The investment is much higher, but the gain is also much higher. If we produce 5,000 boxes per hectare, we can expect more than $1,000 in profit per hectare," said founder and President Piero Coen Montealegre.
